The Command Line Interface (CLI) is the primary user interface which is based on text. Command Line Interface is used for Monitoring, Configuring, and maintaining Cisco Devices. And also CLI provides a way to monitor and manage the router and network operations.

There are different alternative ways of Cisco IOS Software for entering commands, to upgrade productivity. There is no disarray about which command you are endeavoring to enter a shortened command is adequate.

1. Keyboard Shortcuts

The keystrokes in the bellow table help you edit the configuration. Because you will want to perform certain tasks, again and again, Cisco IOS Software provides certain keystroke combinations to help make the process more efficient.

2. History Commands

Cisco Command Line Interface (CLI) stores the most recently used command in its history buffer. Use Ctrl+P or UP-Arrow KEY to see the most recently used command. Similarly, one may use Down-Arrow KEY to navigate between the lists of commands used.

3. [TAB] key to complete

 Commands

You can use the TAB key when you are entering a command to complete the command. Enter the first few characters of a command and press the TAB key, and then the rest of the command is entered for you. This is helpful if you are unsure of the spelling of a command.

Router# sh [TAB] will complete the word “show”

4. Question Mark [?] for Help

The question mark [?] shows you how somebody can work through a command and all its parameters.

Tip: Be aware when you set the size larger than the default. By telling the router to keep the last 255 commands in a buffer, you are taking memory away from other parts of the router.
